New Year’s Resolutions

Well it’s that time of year again…

The time where we jump expectantly into setting lofty New Year’s goals and undoubtedly fall short of achieving them by February.

Who wanted to lose 10 pounds anyway?

Maybe it’s better to set a goal that isn’t so specific, like I’ll get in better shape!

Will it be pear or round? I just had to have that third cinnamon bun…

So forget weight-y goals. How about learning goals- as a former teacher, my favourite kind!!. I always made my students set new learning goals but…

didn’t I retire to get away from working and thinking all the time?

I should learn to stop setting goals that I KNOW I won’t achieve. However, I can’t help it. I’m a creature of habit, so here is my little list. Wish me luck. I’ll be sure to report back February 1st.

  1. Life Goal- Read less fluff and more inspirational material. But I Looooove fluff. It’s escapism. Page turners are engrossing and keep me away from the kitchen!
  2. Fitness Goal-Get in better shape- for energy and to lower cholesterol. This includes yoga ( starts next week!) and hiking on the mountains in my backyard. (See photo) I literally have NO excuse. I have already set up my hiking date with my neighbour Kelly.
  3. Learning Goal- to keep my brain from further decay. I am signing up for Masterclass, and taking the online writing class from Neil Gaiman. Should be a good one. I hope he doesn’t expect too much of me. I have cinnamon buns to bake…
