My darling Clementine

Oh I just adore clementines. I have always loved them since they have a sweeter taste than the regular navel oranges. I use them in salads, for snacks and now in a super easy Whole 30 fruit smoothie…

I started the Whole 30 program just after Christmas and I am loving it. It is forcing me to think about what I eat and even though food prep seems to be more than I did before, I know that I am eating a balanced diet.

Quick recap of Whole 30…a body reset which means no dairy, no gluten and no sugar! It sounds so hard and indeed, when my own daughter established an allergy to all three of these, she had to go paleo, and it improved her health rather dramatically. She asked me to try it, and I couldn’t get past the first day!!

However, my friends had completed the 30 days of this program and they lost 10 pounds, so being the competitor that I am, and because I really wanted to lose those extra Christmas cookie pounds…I went for it. Much easier than I thought. I downloaded the book and read it prior to starting. A month later, I had lost 8 pounds.

In the meantime I had been following Stephanie Goudreau @stupideasypaleo on IG and I just loved her recipes and they are almost all Whole 30 complaint so I tried a few. Terrific.

Once she pointed out the caloric content of one of these mall drinks, I was appalled. Naturally she created her own rendition, and the recipe is on her blog. Here is my own even simpler version using my darling clementines!

1 raw egg, 4 clementines or 2 large oranges,  2 tsp vanilla, 1 frozen banana and vanilla protein powder if you like or 1/4 cup coconut cream. I don’t always have powder or coconut cream on hand so will make this without it and it’s just as good. Blend and serve!

I literally have to shop for these little oranges every 4 days as I use them so much…

I’m off to make a smoothie now but before I go I have reworked the refrain lyrics to the famous song. Enjoy your smoothie!

Oh my Darling, Oh my Darling,
Oh my Darling Clementine.
You are sweet and ever juicy
And I love you, Clementine.

  1. Such beautiful photos!! I hear good things about Whole 30. My husband and I are following the Trim Healthy Mama plan. He’s down 30 lb and I’m down 20 lbs. Feels good.

    1. Good for you !!! I’m getting a bit tired of the restrictions but I’m getting results so I’ll try to continue for another couple of weeks anyway. Thanks for the photo-love.))
